EAT TYPHOON SHELTER CRAB ON A SAMPAN FISHING BOAT IN HONG KONG
GUIDED DINNER EXPERIENCE
OUR MOST AUTHENTIC OLD HONG KONG EXPERIENCE
Floating restaurants were all the rage in the 60’s and 70’s and they’ve slowly dwindled down to just 1 now (Jumbo does not count). Come with us to visit and experience the last floating restaurant in Hong Kong. This is the Real Hong Kong that is quickly disappearing due to gentrification so make sure to try this before it’s too late.
You will first experience an ancient Chinese Folk Ritual known as “Villain Hitting” by government licensed Granny Chiu using her shoe. After being freed of evil spirits by Granny Chiu, it’s a quick trip on the tram before we experience firsthand what it’s like to dine on a moored sampan. On the only sampan floating restaurant left in Hong Kong. The owner and chef are Tanka/Boat Dwellers, one of the earliest ethnic groups of Hong Kong, who used to work and live on a sampan boats exclusively.
If you’re an Anthony Bourdain fan, you’ll know that this is the experience he tried on his No Reservations show when he visited Hong Kong. We will of course try the infamous traditional Spicy Typhoon Shelter Crab that even he couldn’t stop raving about. If you’re looking for a delectable, authentic, and delicious evening full of tradition, history, seafood, & Chinese culture aboard a fishing boat, then look no further. This will most definitely be the off-the-beaten path experience you’ve been looking for.
* Please see our Fishballs’ Food Adventurous Scale to see why this tour has been rated a 2-3.

FISHBALLS’ FOOD ADVENTUROUS SCALE
THIS TOUR HAS A 2-3 RATING
The Eat Typhoon Shelter Crab on a Sampan Fishing Boat Food Tour has been rated a 2-3 on our Fishballs’ Food Adventurous Scale due to the fact that we’ll be seated on a traditional sampan fishing boat anchored in the Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter and the dinner will consist mainly of seafood dishes, from clams, prawns, razor clams, and to crab. This is a seafood lover’s haven.
THE FINER DETAILS OF THE FOOD TOUR
The Times Square taxi stand is right in front of Times Square & Lane Crawford. Please show your taxi driver the Chinese address:
Always get a receipt as it has the taxi’s info in case you forget something in the taxi.
The most convenient way. The Causeway MTR station is just 3 MTR stops away from Central and is located on the Hong Kong Island (blue) line. Exit A is pretty long of an exit and will take around 7 mins to get to the ground floor from the train so make sure you give yourself an extra 10 mins.
There’s a tram that moves west & eastward on Hong Kong Island. It’s slow moving so we don’t recommend taking the tram unless you’re only about 1-2 MTR stops away from Causeway Bay and want the scenic route.
Causeway Bay is easily accessible by buses. We do feel that unless you are a seasoned pro, it’s probably easiest to take the MTR, which is the way we recommend getting to the Causeway Bay as on the ground traffic in Hong Kong can be gridlocked during rush hour (around 6pm-ish).

TOP RATED FOOD TOUR IN HONG KONG
This tour was so much fun. Our guide took us to local places that we would not have tried or known about. The tour was a great mix of food and cultural information and Whampoa was a lovely neighbourhood to do this in! Our guide was a fantastic guide, was very helpful, chatty and answered all of our additional questions. She’s a hit with the locals as well – I loved to see her bantering with them all.
Would definitely recommend this tour, get yourself to Whampoa with Humid with a Chance of Fishballs!
FUN & KNOWLEDGEABLE ENGLISH SPEAKING GUIDES!
If you love food and you want to get off the well-worn tourist trails, then Humid with a Chance of Fishballs should be your first choice. My husband had his ‘villains hit’ by one of the infamous ‘cursing grannies’, before we boarded a tram and travelled to our Sampan boat for delicious shellfish, including the re-nowed ‘Typhoon Shelter Crab’. The next day our guide guided us to one of the oldest dim sum restaurants in town, taught us how to get a seat – no, really, you’ve never done this before, I promise you! No easy feat, I can assure you!
I can highly recommend Humid With a Chance of Fishballs!
UNIQUE & AUTHENTIC EXPERIENCES!
After a quick introduction we turned a few corners and found ourselves in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the back alleys of Hong Kong. Amidst a myriad of different food options she seems to be able to find the ones that offer that little bit extra.
Our guide seemed to have a genuinely great rapport with the hawkers and food stall owners we visited. If you’re looking for a genuine, authentic urban experience, we can definitely recommend going on this food tour. All we suggest is you bring an open mind and a healthy appetite; there’s going to be plenty of food and some of it will have you talking about it till late in the evening.
DON’T BE THAT PERSON THAT LOOKS BACK ON THEIR HOLIDAY & THINKS, “I COULD’VE EATEN THAT…”. THIS IS OUR YOLO TOUR. YOU WON’T
RECRAB REGRET IT.
