ULTIMATE DINING EXPERIENCE ON A SAMPAN BOAT
THE AUTHENTIC OLD HONG KONG SEAFOOD DINING EXPERIENCE
We will first experience an ancient Chinese Folk Ritual known as “Villain Hitting” by professional & government licensed Granny Chiu using her shoe.
We will get to experience firsthand what it’s like to dine on a sampan. The chefs here, past and current generations, are all Boat Dwellers, one of the earliest ethnic groups of Hong Kong, who worked and lived on a sampan fishing boat. This is now one of the only restaurants in Hong Kong that still serves their seafood on sampans. If you’re looking to eat seafood in Hong Kong, this is the restaurant to do so!
After being freed of evil spirits by Granny Chiu, we will embark on the sampan at the typhoon shelter for a scrumptious and fresh, full on 5+ courses of seafood for dinner. If you’re an Anthony Bourdain fan, you will know that this is the experience he tried on his No Reservations show when he visited Hong Kong. We will of course try the infamous traditional Spicy Typhoon Shelter Crab that even Anthony Bourdain couldn’t stop raving about. Equally as important, we will wash everything down with a bottle of Chinese wine.
Come with us for an experience you won’t forget. This isn’t a food tour, but more so a culinary experience. If you’re looking for a delectable, authentic, and delicious evening full of tradition, history, seafood, & Chinese culture aboard a fishing boat, then look no further. This will most definitely be the off-the-beaten path experience you’ve been looking for!
DINE ON A RARE FLOATING SAMPAN RESTAURANT...
LIKE HOW THE BOAT DWELLERS DID!
Anybody that is looking for the ultimate off-the-beaten path experience in Hong Kong needs to do this. Dine like the Boat Dwellers and Hongkongers when floating restaurants were all the rage in the 60’s to 70’s. Participate in an old HK traditional ceremony to scare of evil spirits and drink yourselves silly with some Chinese Hua Diao Wine.
This unique adventure will be around 3 hours in duration. We will walk 500m-1km in distance to get to the various points of interest; therefore, please dress and prepare accordingly. Comfortable, flat heeled shoes are recommended as we will be embarking onto a sampan boat.
SAMPAN SEAFOOD DINNER MENU

START & END LOCATION
We will meet under the TV at Times Square, Causeway Bay. You can take the MTR and get out of Exit A of the Causeway Bay Station (HK Island Line) to the ground level. Look for the human with moose antlers.
From there we will take the dingding (tram) to the typhoon shelter, which will cost $2.30HKD, payable via coins or Octopus when you disembark. The night ends at the Tin Hau MTR station (HK Island Line).
Every Tuesdays at 7pm – 10pm. Please note that there needs to be a minimum of 2 guests in order for this event to run and a maximum of 6 guests per event.
$888 HKD per person for this authentic Old Hong Kong experience. Given the rapid rate of gentrification and modernization of Hong Kong, you may not able to have the chance to dine on a sampan in a couple years’ time. Give this unique dining experience a try before it’s too late.
IF, due to an extenuating circumstance, such as extremely inclement weather (view bad weather policy) or some other unforeseeable reason, that would lead to an event cancellation, an email will be sent to you and you will be refunded in full. It will also be posted on our FACEBOOK and INSTAGRAM pages no later than 1 hour prior to the event start time. We would highly recommend you to follow us and to check the status of the event 1 hour prior to its start time for good practice.

AT AN ACTUAL TYPHOON SHELTER!
Can we change the dinner menu?
The menu is set by the restaurant & is based on the number of guests; therefore, the more guests, the more dishes we will get. At the very minimum, you will have 5 courses of seafood, which will be more than enough food to have everybody feeling very stuffed and chuffed. Not to mention you will get a bottle of Chinese Hua Diao wine on the house.
Is this event suitable for everybody?
Unfortunately it is not. Please note that this event involves boarding a boat and tram; therefore, it is not recommended for guests in pushchairs or wheelchairs.
As we will be on a sampan fishing boat for around 2 hours, this may also not be suitable for very young children. In addition, guests that get motion sickness easily, have shellfish allergies, or dislike seafood are not advised to attend the event. Not to worry, we have plenty of other unique adventures that you can participate. Please check out our other tours.
